Want to know what that “fragrance” in your product actually is?

The Canadian government wants your input on the Regulations Amending Certain Regulations Concerning the Disclosure of Cosmetic Ingredients.
Sounds important, right? Well, it is!
The proposal was just published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on February 11, 2023, and you have until April 22, 2023, to give your two cents.
To make it easy for you to provide feedback, the government has created a new online commenting feature in Canada Gazette, Part I. This is a great way to strengthen transparency and accountability, so kudos to the folks who developed this.
To submit your feedback on the proposed Regulations, simply head over to the Canada Gazette webpage and use the commenting boxes provided. You can comment by section or overall, and there’s even a General Comments section where you can share your thoughts.
If you need to provide confidential business information, there’s a separate text box that’ll get transmitted to the regulator, but won’t be published.
Once you’re done crafting your comment, just hit submit. Let’s make our voices heard and shape the regulations!
This is the response from our Association which we added to the “Add comments to the Executive Summary” section. You may use this text for your own response if you agree, take a portion, or use it to inform your own reply.
Our reply
“We fully support the proposed regulations that allow for greater disclosure of cosmetic ingredients. Providing consumers with the ability to identify potential allergens and sensitivities will enable more informed health decisions when it comes to product purchases and usage. The benefits of such informed decisions would not only lead to cost savings for medical consultations and treatments, but also reduced absenteeism in the workplace and avoidance of discomfort and social impacts of allergic contact dermatitis. The industry’s potential cost to produce new product labels is minimal compared to the benefits this regulation would bring for consumers.”
