Renting or planning to rent a space? Our rent survey is in.

Survey says… the median rate for a monthly rental for a space in a BC salon is just under $800
We ran a short survey to find out what people are either charging or paying to rent a single space in a personal service setting.
Turns out the median price for a “by-the-month” rental across BC is $787. And the most common item included in that price is clean towels or use of laundry. We dug deeper to learn more about how rental rates vary across communities, what other extras are included, and ways in which some spaces are set up to vary pricing according to use.
Rents in the lower mainland averaged just over $1,100, while rents in other areas of BC averaged under $800.
We also had a number of participants indicate they have different rates for full time renters versus part time renters – for example, one salon charges $550 per month for part time and $750 for full time.
Here are some findings about those extras:

Please note this survey was conducted via our network of members and non-members. The entries are anonymous which means we cannot verify any data we feel may be inaccurate. Two samples were removed due to their extraordinary claims of the rental amounts. The benefit of asking for data anonymously is that it allows for candid and truthful replies and protects the privacy of survey participants.
Furthermore, the reported amounts are subject to some variables such as: actual floor space rented, days allowed to work in the space, add-on costs, inflation adjustments, portion of utilities, and other factors. This survey provides a basic baseline of median costs for all renters and should be viewed as a general guide only.
