Raising professional standards in salons, spas, and barbershops through education, certification, and the trusted BeautySafe hygiene program.

About the BeautyCouncil

The BeautyCouncil is a not-for-profit association representing professionals and businesses across the salon, spa, and barbering industries. Its purpose is to raise professional standards, support those working in personal services, and protect the public through education, accountability, and recognition of excellence.

Who It Serves

Professionals, business owners, and educators in hair, esthetics, nails, barbering, and related services benefit from the resources and recognition BeautyCouncil provides. The association also collaborates with municipalities, provincial agencies, and education partners to strengthen the reputation and sustainability of the personal services sector.

How It Supports the Industry

The BeautyCouncil provides structure and stability in an industry that often operates without clear direction. Benefits include:

  • Certification and Credentialing – professionals can demonstrate verified technical competence through programs such as the BeautySafe and BarberSafe certifications, and the Approved Cosmetology Provider (ACP) designation.
  • Public and Industry Advocacy – ensures the voices of salons, spas, and barbershops are represented on issues like workplace safety, sanitation, and professional recognition.
  • Education and Resources – gives business owners and practitioners access to practical tools, ongoing learning, and guidance to operate safely and successfully.
  • BeautySafe Program – the nationally recognized hygiene and safety training program for personal service professionals. BeautySafe was instrumental during the pandemic, helping workplaces reopen safely and maintain public confidence. It continues to set the benchmark for infection control and workplace hygiene across Canada.
  • Community and Connection – offers access to a trusted network where professionals can share experience, ask questions, and stay informed about evolving standards and practices.

Why It Matters

Public trust and safety depend on professional standards. By maintaining high expectations for competence and hygiene, BeautyCouncil helps ensure every client receives safe, ethical, and professional care. Stronger businesses, safer workplaces, and more confident consumers all result from an organized, informed, and respected industry.

Benefits to Stakeholders

  • Consumers gain confidence knowing their service provider follows recognized health and safety practices.
  • Professionals gain credibility, recognition, and opportunities for continued growth.
  • Businesses gain access to tools and advocacy that improve operations, reduce risk, and strengthen client relationships.
  • Government and regulators gain a reliable partner who understands industry realities and supports public safety objectives through education and accountability.
