Join the BeautyCouncil Board of Directors
Are you looking to contribute your skills, knowledge, and passion back to the personal services industry? If you are, we’d love to have you apply to be on our Board of Directors.
Directors are an essential aspect of any association, and help determine the future course of the industry through the power of community and connection. It’s a great way to support your fellow salons, spas, and barbershops.
Join us and demonstrate your leadership
- Commit to the vision, mission, values and work of the organization.
- Share knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance including policy, finance, programs, human resources, fundraising and community relations.
- Constructively participate on at least one committee, including attendance at meetings.
- Be an active participant in regular Board meetings.
- Participate in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and other meetings of the membership.
- Serve the required term of office of 2 years to a maximum of 6 years. Directors currently receive an honourarium of $500 per year.

Optional items
- Complete 200 – 250 word outline that gives members an overview of experience and qualifications related to the role. This will be displayed for members as they vote for directors.
- Upload a photo of yourself. This will be displayed for members as they vote for directors.
You must be a member of the association to be elected to the board of directors. Items above marked with an “*” are required items. Others are optional, however, they will assist us in putting together the voting page for members.

Terms and conditions for applicants
I certify I have or will:
(a) disclose all personal, employment and business relationships with the Society and its
employees, suppliers, contractors and Directors;
(b) disclose all conflicts between the nominee’s personal interests and those of the Society;
(c) disclose any conflicts of interest as soon as they arise; and
(d) comply with the Constitution, Bylaws, Code of Ethics, and any policies set by the Directors.
Responsibilities of being a Director on the Board include:
- Attend all meetings and serve on at least one committee.
- Act honestly, in good faith and in the best interest of the organization.
- Avoid any conflict of interest (implied or explicit, direct or indirect).
- Govern, not manage, the organization.
- Contribute to defining the organization’s strategic directions and approve its strategic plan.
- Determine and monitor the organization’s programs and services.
- Ensure needed resources for the organization, including adequate funding.
- Approve, monitor and follow all Board policies and bylaws.
- Review the bylaws, and recommend bylaw changes to the membership.
- Abide by the bylaws and the various policies and procedures of the organization.
- Mentor new Board members.
- Participate in dialogue and decision-making of the Board.
- Assist in developing and maintaining positive, cooperative and respectful relations among or with the Board, committees, management, staff and community.
- Keep the Executive Director informed of membership and community concerns and issues.
- Represent the organization when required or requested.
